Here, the photograph appears to be split up within a grid layout. Want more mind-blowing fun? Here’s another example from Dimitra Vasilopoulou, who also created the reality-shifter above. It’s highly detailed, confusing, and mind-blowing all at once. As you hover over various parts of this building, blocks shift and scroll based on your cursor direction. Go ahead, play around with this example and see if you can keep your vision straight. It not only looks cool, but it also provides some context for users. But in this case, it seems like it would be a perfect hover effect to implement for photo galleries. Here’s a snippet that brings to mind someone unfolding a hand of playing cards for all to see. Amazingly, the vast majority of the work is done by CSS alone. It’s also reminiscent of the opening credits to a TV show. This combination of skewed caption containers, sharp typography, and quick animation is powerful. Of particular note here are the CSS3 filter effects, as they bring sepia and grayscale images to full color upon hovering. But that speed doesn’t take away their potency. What’s great about this collection of hover effects is that they provide instant gratification. This technique results in cinematic-quality effects that would be otherwise difficult to achieve. From there, CSS filters are separately added to each image. This clever use of CSS and JS duplicates the image and layers them on top of each other.

The system itself is similar to what's been used on iPhone and iPad for years now. It's so fast, it sometimes beats Auto Unlock, which uses the proximity of your Apple Watch, to log you in. But once you use it, you know it's the main event. Touch ID is often referred to as an adjunct to Touch Bar - the little square off to the side. The new speakers are loud, clear, and fantastic. Instead, I tried Touch Bar and it worked. Normally I'd reboot to fix it and it'd be a hassle. Just today, as I was writing this re-review, the macOS emoji picker glitched out and stopped inserting emoji into text for me. Most of the apps I use frequently have updated now as well, including Logic Pro X last week. The other day I went to take a screenshot and noticed how the Grab utility offered some really cool Touch Bar shortcuts. In most cases, I can customize the ones I use all the time so they're almost always available and also benefit from the ones I'd forgotten - or never knew - existed because all of a sudden they're all up in my face. I can simply glance down and there the shortcuts are. On the plus side, Touch Bar has succeeded in getting me to use more shortcuts than I ever have before simply because I no longer need to remember them. Sure, Apple spent upwards of eight years working on it and that's absolutely evident in how solid the hardware is, but the implementations still squeak when they turn around too fast. Touch Bar, which is basically an extremely short iPad-as-input-device embedded above the keyboard, is still very new. If you are using iCloud Photo Library with the Photos app, it will work only with the System Photo Library. If you decide at some point you'd like to pick a different photo library as your default library for Photos, you can do so by going to the General tab of Preferences and click the button Use as System Photo Library. You can't merge libraries using Photos you can only view them separately. It will open a dialogue window before opening Photos, asking you to Choose Library or Create New. To choose a different library than the library you last opened, hold down the Option key when launching Photos. You might logically conclude that Photos always opens the System Photo Library unless otherwise instructed, but the app instead opens the Last Opened library. This becomes your default library, or the System Photo Library in Apple's parlance. When you first set up Photos for Mac, it asks you to choose a library. If you have divided a large photo library into small, more manageable libraries, Photos for Mac makes it easy to work multiple libraries. A large library like mine, however, can still be a drag on the Photos app, slowing down performance to the point where a quick edit in theory becomes frustratingly laborious in practice. In my experience so far, Photos for Mac feels snappier than the sluggish iPhoto that preceded it. |
